One of the requirements to use EducationCity.com is Flash. Unfortunately, Apple has chosen not to allow the use of Flash on both the iPad and iPhone so EducationCity.com will not work on either device.
EducationCity.com uses Flash as it is the most advanced and effective way to create web animations and there have been no real alternatives to this in the market.
The problem with Flash content on iPhones and iPads obviously frustrates many users of EducationCity.com as well as users of many other sites. While we can't predict how the issue will resolve in the long term, we're constantly reviewing our product, how it's presented, and the range of technology that can be used to access the site on various operating systems and products.
We really hope that Apple will change their mind and start to support Flash once again. In the meantime there are lots of systems that do support Flash. Both Windows and Android do support Flash, so a growing number of alternative tablet and phone devices are able to use EducationCity.com directly on them without the need of a special application.
Further technical information - Flash v HTML 5
While we try to adhere to Internet standards and guidelines, which does not yet include HTML5, our understanding is that it's still in development, and our expectation would be that until it's properly adopted as a standard by the wider industry, and has a significant user base, then EducationCity.com is likely to continue to use technologies such as Flash and the older HTML standards to present its content.
Support for HTML5 is very dependent on browser technology. We have found that most sites support some of the functionality, but that it varies from one browser to another, and that a site that supports one part of HTML5 does not work on other browsers.
We have also found that HTML5 does not yet offer the functionality or interactivity required to support most of the EducationCity.com games - which suggests that it may not be the whole answer.

You will need to subscribe to the Homework module for students to use the subscription from home. Students then login via www.EducationCity.com using their homework logins.
Students shouldn’t be given the school’s login details, nor should they be displayed within the school building. Pupils login in either via the AutoLogin, or through individual login if you have that set up in your school.
You’ll need to set up AutoLogin in your school; this is a shortcut that students simply double click to access your subscription. You can place the AutoLogin on computer desktops, a password-protected VLE, or similar.
You can download a step by step guide and find out more information about AutoLogin here. If you are still having problems with this then please call our Customer Services team on 0844 225 3060.
You should use the Autologin shortcut feature which makes it easy for you and your pupils to access EducationCity.com when in school, as there will then be no need to log in each time. You can find out more about the Autologin here.
Your licence however allows staff to use the school subscription outside of school, and may need a copy of the details for their first time login, to allow them to create their own shortcut for future use.
Teachers are entitled to access EducationCity.com at home for lesson planning and to monitor pupil progress.
No you don’t have to log in every time. You should create a shortcut on your desktop called an AutoLogin to enable pupils and staff to have direct access to EducationCity.com without needing to log in each time.
There are different ways to find an activity relevant to what you are teaching.
One of the easiest is to use a keyword in the search feature. You can find out more about the search feature by clicking here.
You can also find out more about our Curriculum Map and Topic Filter on our Activities page.
Teachers can do this via SuccessTracker as long as the pupil saved their score.
If you are using internet Exporer 9 you may need to set it to run EducationCity.com in compatibility mode. In the address bar of the browser, you'll see what looks like a torn piece of paper, click this to turn it blue (and turn the mode on) and it should now work. If not, try closing your browser and trying again. If you need more help on how to do this, check you web browser's help section.
Yes, you can remove academic year/level references via SEN/ASN Preferences in the Teacher Area.
Yes, absolutely. We would recommend the myCity feature. It's a great way to direct pupils to specific activities that are relevant to their learning.
A teacher can select Demo Class > Demo Pupil to both look at an activity and model how to play to pupils. Entering an activity in this way will mean that your SuccessTracker data will not be affected.
However, you also have the whiteboard mode button on the same play screen, that will change some of the settings to help you set the pace if you use it in front of the class. This mode doesn't save your score, as it is a group actvity.
The default setting is for children to choose their class and name from within the school. This means that pupils don't need any usernames or passwords to use the site.
If you do not wish for this to happen, and you would like your pupils to have their own username and password you can set up Individual Login.
The default setting is for students to save their scores once they’ve completed an activity or test. The pupil selects SuccessTracker > Save Score and chooses their class and name.
You can have pupils choose their class and name prior to doing an activity or test by changing the preferences in Schoolwide Settings.

Curriculum Map
The Curriculum Map makes selecting the right activity easy, as it matches the objective you want to cover to the activity that addresses it. As well as being readily available on-screen, the Curriculum Maps are print-friendly, so can be printed out if required.
On the left hand side of the activity select page you can see buttons for the curriculum strands, with an i icon next to each (when in Teacher View mode). Click on the i icon. The Curriculum Map will then be displayed for the area of interest, giving you the objectives with activities that cover these areas, as well as information on the activity content and a link to its Teacher Zone.
Topic Filter
I'm afraid not. The Topic Tools have been designed as Teacher Tools, for whiteboard use. Student tools are currently in development.
You can change the setting for each tool. Click on the button for settings - this can either have the word settings on it, or a spanner icon.
Within the tool towards the top left will be a button either with a question mark icon or the word help. Clicking that will open a tutorial giving an overview of the functionality of the tool.
On the Topic Tool select page there are i icons next to each strand. Click onto that and a Curriculum Map will open. On the right side you will see a light bulb in a purple circle. That opens a guide giving suggestions for classroom use.
Within your school, yes. All teachers can access content that has been saved into the Topic Tools.
Yes, most tools have the Save & Open feature. Use the disc icon to save (you’ll need your feature password to access this) and the folder icon to open.
Select your year/level and subject. Select Topic Tools. Pre-loaded content will be relevant for the year/level you are in, and you can customise the content to your needs by using the Save & Open feature.
Within Maths tests in England, a level is automatically given at the end of a test. In year 4 and above, for a sublevel to be given a child has completed all three full tests within an academic year.
Yes, via Schoolwide Settings > Preferences. You will also need to set the preferences for this in each myCity and Homework you set.
You will need to allow access to the whole subscription from home via Set Homework > Access Options.
I'm afraid not, no. However you can reset the PlayLive Leaderboard via Teacher Area > Schoolwide Settings > Preferences.
You can change the start date of the PlayLive Leaderboard at any time.
Go to Teacher Area > Schoolwide Setting > Preferences > Set PlayLive Preferences for all.
Please feel free to call us on 0844 225 3060 if we can be of any further help!
Yes, if you have enabled this in Schoolwide Settings.
Via Schoolwide Setting > Preferences.
The quickest way to do this is via Teacher Area > User Management > Annual Class Transfer. Here you can see all children by class, and if any do need moving to different classes then you're already in the correct place!
You can find downloadable PDFs on our class list page that can take you through the processes surrounding mananging class lists.
If you need to add, edit or delete one or two pupils in exsisting classes, use the PDF called Add, Edit and Delete Pupils.
If you have a new group of pupils to add (normally the youngest year group) you can easily add them in one go using the PDF Uploading Class Lists.
No, the preferences here apply only to the myCity where they are changed. This allows you to personalise the myCity for individual children or groups.
Individual login for teachers removes the necessity to enter the feature password for each section of the Teacher Area.
No, the default is for individual login to be optional.
You will need to set up Individual Login via the Teacher Area. If you set the option to mandatory, don't forget that this means your teachers will all need a login too.
Within SuccessTracker, there is a report called School Report. This will give you an overview of saved scores. Please contact us on 0844 225 3060 for more details.
Your school needs to be subscribed to the Homework module.
Firstly, you will need to go to User Management > Allocate Homework Licences to allocate the Homework access for your school. Then you will need to go to Teacher Features > Set Homework to set homework for your learners.
Logins cannot be changed so as to ensure uniqueness. Passwords can be changed by teachers via the Teacher Area.
Via Teacher Area > Pupil Management > Allocate Homework Licences.
The first easy checks to make are:
- Ensure they have home access allocated to them, this essentially activates their unique login details for home use.
- Make sure they are trying to log in via the correct country. Under the box that asks for the username and password, there should be an option to choose your region (England, Scotland, Wales etc.). If this is not there, there will be a message that says "not in the US? Click here". This will take you to the correct log in page.
If this doesn't help, please ask the child’s parent/guardian to call us on 0844 225 3060 when they are in front of their computer. We can troubleshoot with them over the phone.
Please bear in mind that we can not give pupils' login details over the phone.
The pupil has not been set specific Homework by their teacher.
They may however have access to other areas of the resource, depending on what the school settings are.
Our homework page has useful downloads which include information about these settings, and an overview guide to home access for parents too.
Yes, you can create sets for groups of students within a class or from two or more classes. Do this via Teacher Area > Pupil Management > Create Sets

The browse feature within ThinkIts allows teachers to view all ThinkIts that fit their curriculum selection. This not only makes all of the content visible, but it also makes it quicker to find an appropriate ThinkIt. You can view the Browse button on the top of the ThinkIts.
Don't forget that we list the IDs of the topical ThinkIts within our topical resources pages.
The feature password gives access to the teacher-only areas of the resource. You should contact your EducationCity.com administrator within your school or contact us on 0844 225 3060 for more information.
We have a team of in-house Producers, Artists and Programmers who work together to create the content you see on the resource. Questions, answers, and reinforcements are written by educationalists.

Example of video formats supported by HTML 5
| Format | IE | Firefox | Opera | Chrome | Safari |
| Ogg | No | 3.5 + | 10.5 + | 5.0 + | No |
| MPEG 4 | 9.0 + | No | No | 5.0+ | 3.0+ |
| WebM | No | 4.0+ | 10.6+ | 6.0+ | No |
- Ogg = Ogg files with Theora video codec and Vorbis audio codec
- MPEG4 = MPEG 4 files with H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec
- WebM = WebM files with VP8 video codec and Vorbis audio codec
Example of audio elements supported by HTML 5
| Format | IE | Firefox | Opera | Chrome | Safari |
| Ogg Vorbis | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| MPEG 4 | Yes | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| WebM | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
As you can see no one format is supported on any of the main browsers.
If you have not been able to load your child's profile, you have a popup blocker running on your browser.
