Going Batty for Bat Box Building at Rutland Water Nature Reserve

On Tuesday 3^rd September, a team of 12 producers and managers from EducationCity.com used their Company Charity Day to head over to Rutland Water Nature Reserve to build bat boxes for some rare species in the area, whose natural habitats are being destroyed by tree felling.

“The 12 of us spent the morning putting our DIY skills to good use” said Assistant Producer, Heather Woods, “and by lunchtime, with a little help from the brilliant project team at Rutland Water Nature Reserve, we had constructed over 50 bat boxes! These will be put up soon in Barnsdale Wood near the reserve.”

In the afternoon, the group had the opportunity to go bird watching at some of the lagoons nearby. These were very peaceful, slightly hidden spots, which made them the perfect place to observe some of the ospreys and other birds in their natural habitat.

Everyone on the team had a brilliant day, working together, appreciating some of the wildlife which is right on our doorstep and giving something back to the community we live in. We’d like to thank Becky, Lloyd and everyone at Rutland Water Nature Reserve for making this day such a success and hope to return to see the bat boxes in use in a few weeks’ time!
