Bonfire night! Let’s celebrate…

On the 5th of November throughout the UK cities, towns and villages celebrate Bonfire Night!

Bonfire Night celebrates the discovery of the great gunpowder plot planned by Guy Fawkes. On the 5th of November, 1605, Guy Fawkes planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament, including King James I –  but the plot was discovered at the last minute and parliament was saved!

Each year since, big bonfires are built where an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burnt and brilliant displays of fireworks are let off to remember the day in history.

A traditional bonfire night poem

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot.
