Remembrance Day (or Poppy Day) is a memorial day held on 11 November to remember all who have fallen since WW1 by Commonwealth countries. It recalls the official end of World War I on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month with the German signing of the Armistice in 1918. Many people now pay their respect by observing a 2 minute silence on the eleventh hour.

In the UK, a national ceremony takes place at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London where the Queen lays the first poppy wreath. Wreaths and small wooden crosses are left at war memorials all around the world in remembrance of family members who died in war.

The red poppy that many people wear has become synonymous with Remembrance Day after the bright red flowers bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of the First World War; their bright red colour symbolising the blood spilt in the war.
